When a question was asked on which country was the top installer of roof solar solar PV. The names that come to our mind are U.S., Japan or Germany. But it is not! It's the least expected country based on their population - Australia. Even though population is low, the country installed more roof top solar panels than any other country, all thanks to Australian populations general intrest on Solar PV installations.
The latest report from Clean Energy Regulator and the International Energy Agency, clearly shows that Australians installed more rooftop Solar Panels more than any other in the world. Approximatly 392,500 new household solar systems were installed in 2011.
But though the number of roof top solar systems installed is high, the name plate capacity of the system, is small compared to other countries like U.S. and other European Nations.
As of june 2012, REC's had been provided for 753,844 solar panel systems nearing 1,671,489 kW capacity.
Close to 9% of households have solar PV systems installed in their households.
