Odisha may see 350MW of Renewable power by 2017

The Indian state of Odisha is all set to recieve 350MW of Renewable power. The state will invest about Rs 2500 crores ($450 Million) for the purpose in the time frame of 2012-2017.

The state of Odisha plans to install the following:

- Solar PV : 150MW
- Wind Energy : 100MW
- Bio-Mass : 100MW

According to  Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA), the state has a Renewable energy potential of 16,230 MW. Of all this, solar has the maximum potential at 14,000 MW and Wind follows by 1700 MW, bio-mass at 350 MW, small hydro at 160 MW and municipal waste 20 MW.

Also recent projects in the state include Alex Astral Power Private Ltd, which bagged a contract for installing a 25 MW solar PV project in the state. The project cost is estimated at around Rs 300 crore ($54 Million) and the project is planning to be setting up in Bolangir district to tap the high amount of solar radiation which the area recieves.
