Rockwell Automation, the european automation major has been awarded a $1.9 million contract for a concentrating solar power (CSP) plant in India.
The contract was for a 50-megawatt concentrated solar thermal plant in Rajasthan, in western India from Lauren-Jyoti, a construction joint venture. The plant is being built for Godawari Green Energy.
Lauren-Jyoti is a joint venture of Lauren Engineers & Constructors of Texas and Jyoti Power Structures of India.
Lauren said last year that it had begun construction of the solar thermal project, valued at $125 million, and that the project was scheduled for completion in 2013.
“This collaboration between Lauren-Jyoti and Rockwell Automation will help build one of the first utility-scale solar thermal power plants in India,” Siddharth Agrawal, director of Godawari Green Energy, said in a statement.
Rockwell’s automation technologies incorporated into the power plant include a distributed control system solution along with mirror controllers and controls.
"Concentrating solar power (CSP) is presently a strategic focus in India for achieving long-term energy and ecological security, and solar power has been a major emerging segment.
This win is significant because it provides us the opportunity to set industry standards for concentrated solar power plants,” Terry Gebert, vice president and general manager of Rockwell Automation Global Solutions, said in a statement.
