Recently Renew India Campaign, had reported that, Indian government is significantly planning to increase domestic Manufacturing of Solar equipments. Now BHEL has Cemented this fact, by announcing plan's for 2,000 Crore, 600 MW Solar Module Manufacturing Facility.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, a Major government owned and one of the largest Electrical Equipment Manufacturer in India in terms of Revenues, has announced it's Plans to set up Solar Module Manufacturing Facility with a capacity of producing 600 MW of Solar Modules each year.

"Initially, we are going to concentrate on the module production, which is the end product. Later, we will manufacture solar cells and materials," said BHEL Chairman and Managing Director - B Prasada Rao.

Though BHEL is planning to implement this Project in Phases, It is expected that the initial investment for this Project might be around 500 crores and they are planning to Manufacture about 150 MW of Solar Modules. Also the recently announced investigation plans on Module dumping by foreign players will see an addition of Import duty on them, which will help leap frog BHEL into a major Solar Module Manufacturer as Indian Solar Farm Developers will be forced to use domestically manufactured products.

BHEL, which is mainly focused on the Power sector, has also plans to be a complete Solar Value Chain Provider by Manufacturing Solar Cells and Wafers along with Modules and provide EPC Solar services. Sooner or later they will enter the Solar BOS Components also in a big way.

BHEL's Solar Segment Currently offers only mono crystalline Solar Cells, Solar Modules only up to 70 Wp, Lighting Products and EPC Solar services.
