Indian Science Congress Association, an association which was founded by two British Chemists, namely, Professor J. L. Simonsen and Professor P.S. MacMahon, is conducting a Southern Regional Science Congress for two days to mark their centenary year.

Southern Regional Science Congress is being conducted at Kongunadu Arts and Science College with a topic "Science for shaping future of India". Key Delegates including India's Former President APJ Abdul Kalam and other 300+ Scientists across South India.

"There is a growing possibility to harness energy from the space through space-based power systems. Space-based solar power has several advantages over the traditional terrestrial-based solar plants and India can play a pivotal role in this field,'' said Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam by inaugurating the event.

Indian Scientists Developing Solar Nano Batteries:

To Store Solar Energy and Transmit the same from Space to earth, A group of Indian Scientists are developing nano batteries. Once the Project becomes successful, these batteries will be capable of storing solar energy and transmit it to earth in packs of each kilogram and each chunk could be capable of Holding several hundreds of watt hours.

Kalam explains that Space based Solar Power has several Advantages over earth based Power, as the space has higher level of solar irradiance.

The Solar irradiance is 1.4 times in extra-terrestrial level than on the surface of the earth. Also Kalam said that Solar Space Power systems will be more efficient and can produce Electricity round the clock, rather than 8 hours in Earth.

Union science and technology department secretary T Ramasam, also gave key note address on the occasion. He added that India has significantly increased it's funding for Research and Related activities over the Years.
