The State of Odhisa having an estimated Renewable Energy Potential of 11,820 MW, with 10,000 MW from Solar Alone was languishing in the Shades of other major states like Gujarat and Rajasthan in terms of Renewable Development. But this is all set to Change as the Odhisa Government is planning new Policies which will see an addition of 80MW of Solar Power in the State within a time frame of three years.

Government Planning to a Finalize a Solar Policy within Two Months:

As a part of the vision 2020, the Odisha state government with support of the state department of science & technology is planning to come up with a detailed energy policy which will see the state installing 50MW of Solar Projects within the next one year and about 80MW within the three years time.

Though it may look a small target to start with, it will significantly boost the local Solar Market Landscape. Also the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) will be recruited as the nodal and clearance agency for the Projects planned under the Scheme. The Policy is also expected to attract more private investors in the state. Though the policy is expected to be concentrated on Solar Power Production, it will give high importance to both solar heating systems and solar based water pump systems, which are being utilized in Rural areas.

Odhisa Planning Rapid Expansion in 12th Plan Period:

The Current Renewable Market in the State is quite small, as it has only 3 Hydel Power plants with a total capacity of 57 MW, Nine Solar PV Power plants with a total installed capacity of 13 MW and one biomass based power plant with 20 MW capacity. But said this, the state has plans to install 350 MW of Power from renewable Resources in the Indian 12th Plan Period, attracting a total investment of over Rs 2,500 crore.
