Solar power projects blossoming in kerala, all thanks to Government Offices

Solar power projects are suddenly seeing a tremendous rise in the indian state of Kerala. All thanks to Government offices which have decided to harness the power of sun due to power inermittancy and due to increasing electricity bills.

Greater Cochin Development Authority- GCDA, the organisation which overlooks the development projects in Cochin, keralas largest city, is all geared up to light up completly from the power of sun. In the first phase GCDA will install solar lamps in office outdoors. GCDA Chairman N. Venugopal said, United Electricals based in kollam will install the lamps. In the second phase Solar modules will be installed in its rooftops. The size of the project is expected to be greater 20KW.

Also GCDA is planning major solar installations in Jawaharlal Nehru International stadium and Shopping complexes owned by GCDA.

It's not just GCDA, Cochin Corporation is also planning to install solar modules in all major offices to reduce electricity consumpton, said Cochin Mayor Tony Chammany.

District Collectrate is also not lagging behind. Ernakulam district collector P.A. Shaik Pareed said they are planning to install solar panels in Civilstation rooftop, by which they are planning to supply this huge office building purely on solar power. According to estimates atleast a 100KW Solar system must be installed in the civil station rooftop to supply the whole building with solar power.  

It doesnt end there. Cochin international airport,the largest airport in kerala is planning to install a utility scale 20MW solar project in its open spaces. Also 8KW roof top Solar power system and solar powered parking spaces will also be installed in the airport.

Recently Vimalagiri public school had installed a solar modules with a nameplate capacity of 39KW.
