Designer Gabriele Diamanti has created a solar oven called the Eliodomestico which makes salt water drinkable.

Gabriele Diamanti, a designer who got inspiration from travelling with NGO's has designed solar oven named the Eliodomestico. Inventor says this invention can be made out of cheap and readily available materials which will enable local craftsmen in the developing world to build the oven for themselves.

The project which is currently under development, have won a Core 77 Design award and also is a finalist at the Prix Emile Hermes competition.

How Eliodomestico works?

Salty water is filled in the black boiler on the top. Then we should tighten the cap. Throughout the day as the temperature rises and the pressure increases, steam is forced downwards through a pipe and collects in the lid of the oven. This acts as a condenser, turning the steam into fresh drinking water. Later this clean water can be collected by placing a basin underneath. Eliodomestico can be used to naturaly filter 5 litres. It requires no electricity and filters, thus making it super cheap.
Diamanti is confident that the invention will get off the ground quickly, as it could efficiently deliver enough daily drinking water for a small family.
