Tiruchi goes Solar Frency; Planning to build 2,496 Solar PV Powered Homes

Tiruchi is going all out to take Solar Power to a whole new high. They are planning to install Solar PV installations in 2,496 houses across the District. 

These Solar Powered homes are constructed under the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Solar Powered Green House Scheme. State government has finished building 2,206 Solar Houses which were sanction a year back at a overall cost Rs 39.71 crore. According to Hindu a leading daily in India, of these 718 houses are located in Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s Srirangam constituency.

This Year a total of 2,496 houses have been sanctioned, and about 15 units have been completed. Srirangam constituency this year too has received a good chunk of this newly allotted homes.

Solar Home Features:

Plinth Area: 300 square feet
Amenities: A Verandah, Bed room, Kitchen and Bathroom. 
Solar:  PV installations (approx cost Rs. 30,000)
Lights: Solar Powered CFL Lamps (Allocated by Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency)
Electricity connection is also provided.
Overall Cost: Rs. 1.80 Lakhs.
Other: Rain water.

The beneficiaries are also given Samplings of five different plant varieties to spread green awareness.

Also Tiruchi has plans to convert one third of Street lights to Solar.
