Germany's Phoenix Solar, has developed the largest ground mounted Solar Project in Saudi Arabia. The Project is part of Saudi's Solar Plan, through which the country is planning to install about 32,000 MW of Solar Projects by 2030.

The 3.5 MW system will be owned by Saudi Aramco and will be installed on the land provided by King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) (link) in Riyadh, which is the world's largest energy research center.  The Project used 12,684 Suntech Panels and the project also used SMA Solar inverters. The solar power plant is also part of the US Green Building Council's LEED Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) which KAPSARC aims to achieve. This certification is proof of compliance with the demanding requirements and standards placed on sustainable and green building.

"We are pleased to complete this historic project which will provide clean, renewable energy for KAPSARC as well as for the Saudi grid." said Klaus Friedl, vice president projects and head Middle East of Phoenix Solar (link).

MENA Market to Reach 3.5 MW

As the Solar Market is evolving and finding new grounds for growth, MENA region is looked upon as the top destination. According to the latest report (link) released by GTM, the Market will hit 3.5GW as quickly as 2015 from the current 149 MW installed capacity, though this represents a small value as compared to other emerging Solar Power houses like India and China, the MENA Solar Market is still showing good Promise.
