Gujarat to implement Offshore Wind Policy

Just day's after Indian Government's launch of Offshore Wind Energy Steering Committee (link) under the chairmanship of MNRE, the state of Gujarat is planning to set up an offshore Wind policy. 



With the support from UK based Atlantis Resources Corporation - which conducted the study, the Gujarat government is planning to introduce a offshore wind power policy that would see the state install 700MW of Offshore Wind Projects within the next few years. A senior official with the state energy and petrochemical department said to Hindu, "The state government expects around Rs 1,000 crore in investments in the sector over the next few years. It has allocated Rs 20 crore in the recent budget to give equity in a first of its kind pilot project." 

Currently the Government estimates approx Rs 40-50 crore for developing Offshore Wind Projects in the state. The official says that the initial cost of generating per mega watt of power by the offshore windmills has been estimated to be around Rs 40-50 crore, and will dip in a rapid way as the technology get deployed more.



Initially 600 MW Offshore Wind Facility to be set up:


Greenshore Energy Private Limited, a Bangalore based developer in support with the Gujarat State Government is planning to develop a 600MW Offshore Wind Project and this would be the first Offshore Wind Project in India, if every thing falls in the right place.
