Kerala is now is in a green mode and state government is trying hard to hide it's Power Deficiency, by introducing more and more Solar PV systems in Government offices and Residential Sector and as a part of the project to make Kerala a Solar Power House, the government has completed the trial run of the Solar PV installations in Kerala Public Works Department buildings.
According to the Indian Express, The trial run, which is also the first phase, was conducted at the Kerala High Court and Alappuzha Medical College. It was studied in detail and the corrections have been made for maximum power generation.
PWD superintending engineer (electrical wing) T P Sadananda Pai said that the State Government had already set aside Rs 15 crore in the 2013-14  budget for solar panel installation. The proposed plan is to install the panels in 25,000 offices in the State which can produce 25 MW of power.  "The installated capacity at Alappuzha Medical College is 30 KW and Kerala High Court is 10 KW. Studies have been conducted for maximum generation during the peak time from 10 am to 3 pm,’’ Sadananda Pai said.
The latest technology of flexible film with triple junction will be used at the government office buildings which can produce maximum power. PWD is now equipped with the technology and now will go for the massive installation.
However, before installation of the panels, energy conservation methods, including conversion of traditional bulbs to LED will also be undertaken by the PWD. This was done at the Kerala High Court and now around 10,000 units of power are saved a month.
Energy-saving methods was introduced at the Secretariat and now it saves around 427 units a day. The priority will be for power conservation and it will be implemented at all the district collectorates.
