The Green equivalent of formula1 will hit the race track soon.
Formulec!
In close collaboration with its partners, including engineering specialists Segula Technologies Automotive, Formulec has created and designed the first single-seater equipped with a high-performance, fully electric powerplant: the EF01.
The electric race car is capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds and has a top speed in excess of 150 mph.
Since its first test run on September 15th 2010, the EF01 has proven itself a success in terms of both performance and potential. The car combines speed and efficiency with respect for the environment and a sustainable development ethos, and in doing so acts as a forerunner to the motor racing of tomorrow.
From Cancun to Moscow, with stop-offs in Berlin, Rotterdam, Le Mans, Frankfurt, Hanover, Stuttgart and Birmingham, the EF01 has, in little over a year, embarked on a varied and challenging promotional tour. Along the way it has been part of urban roadshows alongside prestigious Formula One teams and participated in parades dedicated to new energies.
A world championship open to companies and manufacturers will be launched in the coming months. Formulec aims to play a key role in its development.
The technical partners include giants-
- Segula technologies automotive
- Mercedes GP Petronas
- Siemens
- SAFT
- Michelin
- ART grand prix
- Hewland
- FCI
- OZ
- 2D
- Yvelines General council
- Dekra
The key technology behind the Formulec EF01 is a special interconnection system that relies on FCI’s hi-performance connectors, which are recognized for their compact size and low weight. In the EF01 these connectors are used for the high current and high voltage (250A/400-800V) DC connection for the battery, junction box and inverter.
Format:
The format will continue in 2013, allowing selected top-class international drivers to measure their skills at the wheel of the EF01 on race tracks around the world. The vision for the 2014 season and beyond is for the ‘Formulec World Championship’ to be created for automakers and industrialists who have developed their own electric single-seater race cars to enter the competition.
