To power it's power hungry data centers, Apple Inc has almost finished the construction of a massive 20MW solar farm next to its North Carolina data centre, named ISore Energy.
Apple is really hoping to boost its green footprint as Organisations such as Greenpeace have, in the past, objected Apple's move to power these data centres by Coal powered plants.
Apple’s Solar PV farm features:
- Total area: 100-acre
- Name plate capacity: 20-megawatt - - Energy Supplied: 42 million kWh of energy annually
- Total investment: $95 Million
The company also building a 4.8MW array of 'Bloom Energy' fuel cells, which is solid oxide fuel cell technology. Apple will deploy Bloom energy fuel cell modules each of capacity 200KW. Apple is alsi considering biogas plabts which convert bio-gas into electricity.
Recently SEIA released the top 20 list of corporations in US supporting solar power, in which suprisingly Apple didn't make the cut.
