U.K.’s power supply data today showed that output into the grid network from wind generation rose to a new record which was 4,010 megawatts at 10 p.m. London time yesterday, according to National Grid Plc (NG/) data on Bloomberg.
The amazing part was that on a average the wind turbines were generating 3,900 megawatts, or nearly 10.6% of the U.K.’s power supply.
Currently U.K. is in high gear and is planning increasing wind's share in the total power pool and is expected to install a total of 18GW of offshore wind farms and 13 gigawatts of onshore turbines by 2020. Current combined capacity is about 7.4 gigawatts, according to the lobby group RenewableUK.
