In a Mission to be one of the major player in Solar Market, India need's to step up it's Manufacturing base, significantly.
It seem's that JNNSM Phse 2 Policies might aid this objective of setting up more Manufacturing facilities in India. India currently lags in High Tech manufacturing of Ingots & wafers. But has a good base in Solar Cells and Solar Modules.
Currently India has the following Manufacturing base.
Ingots & Wafers: 15 MW
Solar Cells: 848 MW
Solar Modules: 1932 MW
During Phase II, the government is planning to give attention to solar manufacturing in such a way that new developments be made across the entire Solar value chain in India, including wafers, cells, modules (thin film modules also) and other BOS components.
Solar Thermal:
Though India has good manufacturing base of low temperature solar collectors, but still manufacturing capabilities for advanced solar collectors for low temperature and CSP collectors and their components for medium and high temperature applications are yet to be focused. An incentive package, similar to SIPS, would be considered for setting up manufacturing plants for solar thermal systems/ devices and components.
In General the Thrust Areas for promotion of Solar Manufacturing Capability during phase-II includes:
- Development of complete value chain for both PV and thermal in India.
- Off-grid special products for rural applications
- Manufacturing of solar grade mirrors and glasses
- Developing capacity to develop components and Materials like
o Heat Transfer Fluid (HTF)
o Thermal Storage systems
o Solar Concentrated Glasses
o Inverters
o Permanent magnet and other motors for solar pumps
