The Cochin International Airport Ltd’s had successfully completed a pilot Solar project in it's roof top, which would see them install another 1MW ground mounted Solar Project.
The Pilot project was a 100KW rooftop solar PV system, which used 400 - 250W poly crystalline Solar Modules manufactured by Kolkata based Vikram Solar (link). According to Mathruhumi, the Project costed around 98 Lakh, off which MNRE provided a subsidy of 35 Lakh.
Vikram Solar also provided the complete Turnkey Solutions for of the Project and they will also provide O&M services as well for 10 years.
The Primary utilization of the projects will be for powering the Air Conditioning systems in the Airport. Als0 as the project is proven to be successful CIAL is planning a Utility scale ground mounted Solar PV Project within the Airport premises. Also Tendering process for the 1MW Solar Project will start soon.
