This week we are Sneak Peaking into the project, which when comes online in 2013, will be the largest Solar Project in Middle East. The Abu Dabhi based Clean energy Company Masdar (link) is constructing Shams 1 Concentrated Solar Project and will get the Title "Largest Solar Project in Middle East", once it becomes fully operational by 2013.
The 100 MW Shams 1 Project, will cover an area of 2.5 km² and will utilize 768 parabolic trough collectors to generate green Renewable Power. Once operational the Plant will displace more than 175,000 tons of CO₂ in a Annual Basis and will power about 20,000 Homes. The Project is being built with Support from Abengoa Solar (link), a major CSP Developer. The Construction of the Shams 1 Project was started on June 2010 and is expected to end in 2013.
But Masdar's Middle East Solar Plans, doesn't end with Shams 1. They are in the final phase of planning of the Noor -1, which is a 100MW Solar PV Project. Also in 2009, Masdar Commissioned 10MW Masdar City Solar Project which is providing electricity needs for the construction of Masdar City. It Utilized a total of 87,780 modules, which includes 18,228 Suntech and 69,552 First Solar Modules.
