Bio fuel Crop Plantations Growing in Karnataka

Y.B. Ramakrishna, the Executive Chairman of the Karnataka State Biofuel Development Board has said during the board's second anniversary that a good number of farmers are moving to the cultivation of biofuel producing crops.

He also said that more than 3 Lakh farmers are growing Biofuel crops across Karnataka utilizing  Baradu Bangara’ and ‘Hasiru Honnu’ Schemes.

This bio-fuel program is designed to bring about total participation of the farming community, landless labourers, self help groups and non-government organizations. Under the this scheme biofuel crop plantation on bunds & hedges of the farmer’s land is given priority. This Program is funded done through MGNREGA and major non-government organizations.

Baradu Bangara

This bio-fuel plantation program focuses on Bio fuel crop plantations in government wasteland, degraded forest land, along the roadside etc under the guidance of the forest department. The block plantation is also done under this programme with the involvement of Village Forest Committees.  Both MGNREGA & SDP funds are utilized for this Scheme. 

Mr. Ramakrishna also said during the board's second anniversary function that the Board will start bio fuel information centers in every district of the State in the coming months. But the timeline for Project implementation was not Provided.

About KSBDB - Karnataka State Biofuel Development Board

KSBDB is a Karnataka state funded organization, which focuses on activities relating to oil tree planting, seed collection, processing of oil to bio-diesel and usage of byproducts .R&D Activities are also conducted by the organization with support from Universities.
