Raasi Green Earth Energy a Solar Farm developer in South India has signed a agreement to develop a 100 MW, 920 crore Solar PV Project in Tamil Nadu.
According to Hindu, the Project is expected to be developed in Paramakudi. The agreement was
signed in the presence of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa between the Bangalore based Raasi Green Earth Energy and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development
Corporation (TIDCO).
Raasi Green Earth has plans to initially install first 10MW of the Solar PV Project within a Year and a has said that it has also found investors which will help them to develop the remaining 90 MW
within few years. Tamil Nadu, the South Indian state which currently only has 17 MW of
Solar Installed Capacity is inviting bids to install 3 GW of Solar Power
by 2015. This Project is part of it's Plans to implement the Target.
The Newly formulated Tamil Nadu's Solar Energy Policy (Click here) mandates 6% Solar Purchase Obligation (SPO)
(starting with 3% till December 2013 & 6% from January 2014) for the
HT consumers (HT Tariff I to V) and LT commercial consumers, which will significantly raise the state's Solar presence. Also as a part of the New Policy, TIDCO will work with the private sector and will establish 1,000 MW of solar farms within the next five years.
