It's now a common Scenario, Players lying in the upstream of the Solar value chain are looking downstream. Players like First Solar had digged deep in the downstream sector as a project developer and others are following the pattern. The Chinese Module Manufacturer giant Trina is reportedly (link) having plans entering the downstream by acquiring Project Developers in order to increase their profitability.
“Trina is
always open and interested in opportunities. If there is
anything that is advantageous to Trina, then we’d action that.” Ben Hill, president of Trina Solar Europe (link), during the World Economic Forum (link) in Davos, Switzerland. “I don’t think buying more module manufacturing capacity
is interesting for Trina at the moment, But there
are other opportunities for us to expand our scope and we will
certainly be looking at that.”
As with the case with other Solar PV Manufacturers, Trina is seeking to
tap more downstream revenue as high inventory of
modules and shrinking module revenue stream in Europe made manufacturing the
technology unprofitable.
Trina Solar Planning 50MW Solar Project in China
In August 2012, Trina unveiled it's plans to develop Solar Projects in China and as part of the initiative the company had received approval from Chinese officials for a 50MW Solar project in
Gansu province.
