150 KWp Rooftop Solar Projects inaugurated in Punjab

The Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah has inaugurated two rooftop Solar Projects in the City of Chandigarh, which includes a 50 KWp rooftop solar PV facility at Paryavaran Bhawan and a 100 KW facility in Model Central Jail

The 50 KWp project cost was estimated at Rs 90.4 Lac and the 100 KWp project had an estimated cost of  Rs.143 lac. The 50% of the total cost of both the Project was funded using MNRE's contribution.

Both the plants are capable of Generating 65,000 and 1,30,000 units of electricity/year. The city of Chandigarh was also selected as one of the 54 Solar city of MNRE.  The City's Ambitious Solar plans doesn't end there, Chandigarh has a plans to Solarify all the Government Buildings. As a part of that initiative 3 MWp of Solar PV facilities will be installed in 30 Government Buildings. 

Dr. Abdullah also had a meeting with the Governor of the state of Punjab Shri Shivraj Patil and Shri Parkash Singh Badal and he appreciated the efforts of the state for setting up of 250 MW of solar power plants. He also requested the Chief Minister to encourage the use of solar powered pumps for irrigation as this would help in providing irrigation water to the farmers during day time and save electricity. He also requested that solar based steam cooking systems should be installed in all the religious institutions in the State. A very good beginning is being made with the installation of such a system in Golden Temple, Amritsar.
