Just Imagine a sunny afternoon, the thought itself makes us Thirsty. And Imagine we are stuck in Village, with only few shops, which has soft drinks which are warm, as their is no Electric Supply to Cool them.. It's not a good feeling.
That's the scenario in certain parts of Rural India. Now Softdrink giants are planning to tap this huge market and Coco Cola is planning to hit the mark.
How is Coke becoming Green??
Coca-Cola India is planning to gain market in 80,000 Indian villages that do not have any electricity. Of these, 25,000 have little chance of being connected to the power grid in the conventional way.
To Tap this market Coke has introduced low-cost solar powered cooler to convert Warm Cokes to Cold ones. Coke has already installed nearly 400 such Coolers in a good number of Villages, and to their surprise the Sales of Coke has sky rocketed. Now Coke sells five times as more they sell normally.
Coke says that the new business generated from the Cooled Coke, more than pays for the cost of the solar cooler. Also according to Economic Times, Coke is planning to distribute 1,000 boxes free to women entrepreneurs in rural parts of Madhya Pradesh, UP, Himachal Pradesh and some parts of West Bengal by 2013.
Moreover, Coke India is planning to increase the number to 4,000-5,000 in the next 3-4 years. Also 22 countries serving Coke has received 400 such boxes from Coke India.
Asim Parekh, Vice President - Technical, India & South West Asia, Coca-Cola India says "These (cooler) boxes are bringing first time customers who never tasted our beverages before. The model is helping create a market in areas where Coke was not present at all."
Current version of the Cooler is Capable of Storing 50 Bottles, But as the demand took off, Shop owners say even 50 bottle storage is not enough. Coca Cola India collaborated with Mumbai-based Western Refrigeration to create the solar cooler.
